The Antbear and our social responsibility

We live is a spectacularly beautiful place and our standard of living is exceptional. But around us lie controsts of poverty and lack of development. If we are to keep our way of life then it surely follows that we must do everything in our power to contribute to the upliftment and prosperity of this rural area. We believe that the future of South Africa is linked to the prosperity of the people, and that upliftment is linked to education. And as such we have chosen to support our local primery school called Vulakani Primery School.

There is lots of things that need doing and we have chosen to start here. We have raised money and have built a new class room, setup a play ground, installed basket ball nets, kitted out the school soccer team with a soccer uniform,bourght new shoes for all the kids who came to school barefoot, setup a small start of a library, funded a school trip to Durban and supplied fencing for a school vegitable garden project. We continue to support Vulakani there are still lots of needs.

The Antbear and sustainable eco tourism

We support efforts made by our local communities. We recommend the local tours and tour guides where possible and inform our guests about all the locally run attractions. This makes the Antbear a somewhat alternative experience.

The Antbear Guest House believes in a green environment. We have our own garden and produce all our vegitables organically. Building projects have already included 2 straw bale buildings which is eco friendly and labour intensive. Water is recyled using a reed bed filter. Cosiderable effort has been put into the clearing of alien invader plant spieces like wattle and hawthorn. So far 2 ha have been cleared and another 4 still loom ahead.
